SAN JOSE, Antique, Nov. 14 (PIA) - - Students from both public and private schools in San Jose town test their skills in emergency response during a two-day Junior Rescue Olympics held at the Evelio B. Javier Gym, Binirayan Sports Complex, Binirayan Hills, here recently.
"This is the first Junior Rescue Olympics conducted by the municipality of San Jose de Buenavista through the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (MDRRMO) and various stakeholders, and the event provided the venue for the youth to learn about disaster preparedness and response," said MDRRM Officer Alex Crespo.
Crespo said that there is a need to train this sector while its members are still young so that they will acquire needed skills to be more prepared, confident and empowered when actual emergency occurs.
"It is in their generation now that they will experience Climate Change and should a disaster strike not only adults will be affected but children as well," Crespo said.
The two-day event has three categories namely elementary, junior high school and senior high school students
For the junior and senior high school students, in their respective categories, they pitted their skills in firefighting bucket relay, indoor accident extrication, cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR), bandaging and splinting.
The elementary students, except for indoor accident extrication, also showed their abilities in CPR, firefighting bucket relay; bandaging and splinting.
The following are the results of the Quiz Contest:
Delegate Angel Salazar Jr. Memorial School was adjudged champion in the Quiz Contest Elementary Level, followed by Gov. Santos Capadocia Memorial School, and third-Salazar Memorial School; for the High School category: champion- Antique National School; second-San Pedro National High School.
For the Junior Rescue Olympics Elementary Category: Champion- Pantao-Igbonglo Elementary School; 1st runner up-Igbonglo Elementary chool; 2nd runner up Eufrocino Moscoso Elementary School; Best in CPR- Assemblyman Segundo Moscoso Memorial School; Best in Bucket Relay- Saint Anthony's College Grade Schhol; Best in Bandaging- Evelio B. Javier Memorial SchOol; Best in Splinting- Pantao-Igbonglo Elementary School.
Senior High School Category: Champion- Antique national School; 1st runner up- San Pedro National High School National High School; Best in CPR- Antique National School (ANS); Best in bucket Relay- ANS; Best in Bandaging- ANS; Best in Splinting- ANS- Best in indoor accident extracation- ANS
The San Pedro National High School on the other hand dominated the contests for the Junior high school category, according to MDRRMO II Fe Corazon Malaya S. Tacogdoy. (JBG/VWV/PIA Antique)
