ILOILO CITY, Jan. 17 (PIA) - - Everybody is invited to join and enjoy "Dagyang sa Calle Real" of the Dinagyang Festival 2020 on January 25. There are rules and regulations for everyone to follow, though.

Iloilo Festivals Foundation Inc. "Dagyang sa Calle Real" Committee Chairperson Philip Chua said rules and regulations have been set to ensure the general safety at the event.

"It is open to the public, everybody is invited to join as long as you follow the rules," said Chua in a press conference held on Wednesday here.

He said vehicles, floats and bicycles are not allowed in the parade route area - entire stretch of Calle Real from Plaza Libertad - except for religious non-motorized "caro" of Sto. Nino during the activity.

Backpacks, pointed objects, bottles, glass, lighters and use of unauthorized drones will be prohibited.

Also, no smoking, no vaping and other relevant city ordinances such as anti-littering will be strictly enforced.

For further safety, Dr. Roland Jay Fortuna, Medical Officer of the Iloilo City Health Office, advised those with medical problems to be cautious or to avoid joining the event. Also, parents should not bring their young children to avoid being lost or injured.

Revelers are also reminded to eat before coming to the event and stay hydrated to avoid heat stroke.

A crowd of 25,000 is expected to join the "Dagyang sa Calle Real" event organized by the newly-formed IFFI to revive and bring back the merrymaking vibe of the festivities.

It will start at 8 A.M. after a mass at San Jose de Placer Parish Church and a short program.

Chua said nine tribes from the different barangays in this city will participate in the event which will also be a friendly competition for them wherein awards such as Darling of the Crowd and Best in Costume will be given.

Aside from the nine barangay-based tribes, 25 more tribes or groups from other local government units and schools in Panay Island have confirmed their participation.

Merrymakers can also watch the Sponsors Mardi Gras at 1 P.M. at the Freedom Grandstand. At around 6 P.M. Mayor Jerry Trenas will lead the ceremonial lighting of all buildings from Plazoleta Gay to Sunburst Park.

This will be followed by the religious "sadsad" in front of San Jose de Placer at 7 P.M.

"ILOMINATION" concert featuring bands from Manila at Plazoleta Gay will cap the day's event. (JSC/laf/PIA6- Iloilo)
