11,032 senior citizens in Koronadal City to receive social pension

KORONADAL CITY, South Cotabato, May 20 (PIA) - Over 11,000 senior citizens from the city's 27 barangays are set to receive their social pension starting tomorrow, May 21.

According to a report from the city government, a total of 11,032 eligible beneficiaries in the city will be given cash aid by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) from May 21 to May 22.

Apart from the pensioners who would be getting their advance pension for six months amounting to P3,000 for the year 2020, there will also be 4,073 elderlies who will receive their delayed grants of P6,000 each from last year's budget.

A total of P57, 534,000 worth of assistance under DSWD's Social Pension (SocPen) program will be disbursed.

The city government published the number of beneficiaries per barangay as follows: Assumption (98), Mambucal (100), Sta. Cruz (517), San Isidro (385), Paraiso (288), Carpenter Hill (421), Saravia (460), Concepcion (304), San Roque (301), Magsaysay (282), New Pangasinan (344), Topland (813), Cacub (178), Avancena (353), Caloocan (313), Esperanza (312), GPS (1,211), Mabini (284), Namnama (233), Morales (243), Rotonda (261), San Jose (716), Sto. Nino (580), Zone 1 (327), Zone 2 (337), Zone 3 (745) and Zone 4 (425).

As per the process flow, the cash payouts will be given directly to the senior citizen beneficiaries through the Special Disbursing Officers (SDO) from the City Treasurer's Office.

The said distribution will require senior citizens to present the following proof:

(a) If personal appearance, one (1) original senior citizen's ID and a photocopy with three (3) specimen signatures.

(b) In case of a senior citizen's on lockdown, one (1) written certification, barangay certification with the signature of C/MSWD Officer & OSCA Head, Photocopy of ID with three (3) specimen signatures, picture of a senior citizen with the May 2020 calendar at the background shall be presented.

Meanwhile, the city government assured the distribution will follow quarantine protocols such as observance of physical distancing and wearing of face masks.

Under SocPen, which is provided for under Republic Act No. 9994, the "Expanded Senior Citizens Act of 2010," qualified indigent senior citizens receive a monthly stipend of P500 to help augment their daily subsistence and other medical needs. The social pension is distributed on a semestral basis at P3,000 per semester or P500 per month for six months. (ORVR with reports from Koronadal City Information Office)
