QuarterbackBrock Purdyand second-year receiverRicky Pearsallset the tone with a crisp opening drive, while the defense notched two interceptions and four sacks to keep the Raiders offense in check. Several playmakers stepped up in key moments to help the 49ers notch their first preseason victory of the year.
Here are five takeaways from the 49ers-Raiders game:
Purdy and Pearsall Find Early Rhythm
The 49ers opened the game with a few of their starters, and the chemistry between Purdy and Pearsall was immediately on display. The duo connected three times on the first series for gains of 7, 14, and 21 yards, getting San Francisco into scoring position. Moody's 30-yard field goal put the 49ers on the board first.
Kiner Injured, Wilson Jr. Steps Up
Undrafted rookie running backCorey Kinershowed burst on a 19-yard carry in the second quarter but went down at the end of the run and had to be carted off the field. With Kiner sidelined, the 49ers turned to veteransKe'Shawn VaughnandJeff Wilson Jr.Vaughn provided a quick spark with a 10-yard gain, and Wilson Jr. capped off the possession with a touchdown run to tie the game at 10-10. Wilson Jr. continued to provide steady production in his return to the 49ers backfield.
Defense Generates Consistent Pressure
The 49ers front seven created problems for Raiders quarterbacks throughout the evening. Rookie linebackerNick Martinlogged a third-down sack in the second quarter to force a punt, defensive linemanTrevis Gipsonadded an eight-yard sack later in the half, andDemone Harrisbrought down Raiders quarterback Cam Miller in the fourth quarter. CornerbacksDarrell Luter Jr.andChase Lucaseach delivered strong coverage on deep attempts, with Lucas notching a second-half interception to go along with another sack.
Takeaways Turn into Points
The 49ers defense set up the offense with short fields twice in the second half. Early in the third quarter, Lucas picked off Raiders quarterback Aidan O'Connell and Mac Jones and the offense capitalized. Jones & co. moved the ball into scoring position for Moody's 26-yard field goal. With just seconds left in the fourth quarter, safetyJaylen Mahoneycame up with a timely interception to halt a Raiders drive, setting up the game-winning opportunity.
Moody Ices the Game
Moody scored from 30, 26, 50, 44, and 59 yards on the day. His longest kick came in the final moments, when he drilled a 59-yarder straight through the uprights to seal the 22-19 win.
The 49ers will carry momentum from their walk-off win into their preseason finale against the Los Angeles Chargers at Levi's Stadium.
