The San Francisco 49ers have locked in another one of their veteran leaders for the long haul, signing All-Pro linebackerFred Warnerto a three-year contract extension that will keep him in The Bay through the 2029 season. A former third-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, Warner has transformed into one of the most formidable linebackers in the league over the course of his seven-year career. He enters his eighth NFL season as the most tenured defensive player on San Francisco's roster. Before we officially dive into Warner's third contract with the 49ers, let's take a look back at his most impressive stats and records from 2018 to 2024.
- Warner has led the 49ers in tackles in each year of his career and ranks second behind Hall of Fame linebacker Patrick Willis in franchise history in tackles (896).
- The All-Pro linebacker tied for first in passes defensed (53) and second in forced fumbles (15) among linebackers in franchise history.
- In the last three seasons (2022-24), Warner's 28 passes defensed are the most by a linebacker in the NFL.
- Warner is the second player in franchise history to have registered 10.0-plus sacks and 10-plus interceptions in a career.
- He is one of two players since at least 2000 to register 115-plus tackles in each of his first seven NFL seasons.
- Since 2021, Warner is one of three players in the league to register 130-plus tackles in each of the previous four seasons. He is the company of Baltimore Ravens linebacker Roquan Smith and Washington Commanders Bobby Wagner in accomplishing this feat.
