The San Francisco 49ers added another weapon to their defensive front with the addition of DLBryce Huff, a proven edge rusher known for his ability to pressure quarterbacks.

Kathryn Riley/AP ImagesGrowing up in Alabama, Huff made it to the football field at an early age. According tophiladelphiaeagles.com, he first put on the pads at 4 years old. He looked up to his older brother, Jordan, who went on to play college football at Northern Illinois.
"There definitely was some pressure because everybody in Alabama played football, so if you weren't playing ball, there really wasn't much else to do," Huff said. "It was something I was really looking forward to as a kid."
That early start helped build the mindset and toughness that now define his playing style.
AP ImagesHuff joined the New York Jets in 2020 as an undrafted free agent and made an immediate impact with his pass-rushing ability.
Over five NFL seasons with the Jets and Philadelphia Eagles, he's totaled 20.0 career sacks, 20 tackles for loss, and two forced fumbles in 66 games. His breakout 2023 season with the Jets included double-digit sacks, proving his threat off the edge.

In 52 games, he recorded 39.5 tackles for loss, the fourth-most in school history, and 18.0 sacks, tied for sixth-most. He earned All-AAC honors in 2018 and 2019 and landed on the watch lists for the Bednarik and Nagurski Awards, two of college football's top defensive honors.
AP ImagesSan Francisco's defensive line coach Kris Kocurek believes Huff is a perfect fit for what the 49ers want to do up front.
"We're going to get him back to a little bit more with what he's comfortable with," Kocurek said, referencing Huff's return to a 3- or 4-point stance. This is the position he thrived in during his Jets days under Robert Saleh, who's now back in the fold as SF's defensive coordinator. The 49ers are looking to take full advantage of his explosiveness and quick first step.
AP ImagesFew know elite pass rushers better than DLNick Bosa, and he's excited about what Huff brings to the 49ers defense.
"He's going to be our pass rusher on the other side, so I think that's a pretty big deal," Bosa said. "He was one of the guys that I liked to really watch when he was with the Jets He's really elite at certain things, so we're going to use him that way."
Huff's return to a four-down front, where he's most effective, has San Francisco's top pass rusher eager to see what they can accomplish together.
